I have a ton of soccer photos and videos that I still need to go through, but here is the first group…
Tonight, Billy’s soccer team went to watch the Thomas Dale Knights Varsity Soccer Team take on Hopewell. We arranged for them to play some of the Thomas Dale JV players during halftime.
I put together this video that was shot.
It’s not the best quality (because of the video editing software) but I didn’t want to wait. Enjoy.

Around Christmas this year, Billy and I were able to go to a couple of college basketball games. The first game was UVa vs Elon. This was the first time I’ve been to John Paul Jones arena and it was very impressive. The game was fun, but not particularly exciting. Virginia manhandled Elon (as they should have).
The second game we went to was VMI vs the University of Richmond. This game was much more exciting. VMI opened to an early lead which Richmond reduced to 3 point by half time. Richmond took a 10 point lead mid way through the second half that VMI was able to eliminate and take a 1 point lead with 3 minutes left. It came down to the wire with VMI coming up short by 2 by missing a 3 pointer at the buzzer.
Tuesday night, in the middle of the third quarter, Billy scored his first soccer goal. In the league that Billy plays in, they use full size goals since these are six year olds, I’ve been trying to show them that if the get the ball more that four feet off the ground, there isn’t many goalies that will be able to stop it. In the middle of the third quarter, Billy stole the ball and went down the left side of the field. He cut to the inside of one defender and went straight for the goal. About 20 feet out, with only the goalie in his way, he kicked one about six feet high that went right over the goalies head.
With his Under Armour “running” shirt and my GPS running watch on his arm (it was too big for his wrist), Billy ran the First Market Mile Kids Run this morning. I am so proud of him! We ran together and from the start he lead the entire way to the finish. I ran the 10k afterward with less interesting results. I did run into 2 VMI grads, a coworker from Divx, my sister and my nephew. Of course I never did find Steve (the guy I was supposed to run with).
We just finished up Billy’s basketball season.
Tonight I took Billy to his first high school basketball game. It was the Thomas Dale Knights vs the Matoaca Warriors. Thomas Dale is 2nd in the division and Matoaca is 3rd. It was a neat experience with him asking me about what a foul was and the buzzer, etc. We both had a great time and now Billy says he wants to go to a college game.
BTW, Thomas Dale won.
Tonight we finished up our fall softball league. We went 10-0 for the fall. This is quite an improvement from the 1-25 record we had the summer of 2004. The members of the fall ball team were Sir, Alex, Jim, Randy, Lee, Jon, Jake, Steve, Howard, Kevin, Bill, Chris, and Hayden.
This season reminded me of the first t-ball team I was on as a kid. Here is a newspaper clipping.
Wow! Today Lance Armstrong completed his seventh Tour de France victory. This was his last Tour and last race as a professional. This is the third year that I have watched it and even Billy was into it. Everyday he made it a point to watch it while I was at work so that he would know what happened before I did. This afternoon he was quite upset to hear that Lance was almost in a wreck. I don’t know how he’s gonna take it when I tell him that Lance is retiring.
