It’s been a while since I provided an update on the garage. That doesn’t mean things have been idle, although they haven’t been moving as fast as I would like. Today I completed the electrical rough-in inspection. This included the ditch being dug (by hand), pulling all the wire and wiring up the subpanel. In addition, since the last update, we repaved the driveway to tie in the garage.
The framing is complete, the roof is on and the overhead doors have been installed. They are going to start on the siding on Thursday. Check out the details.
The roof framing is now complete. It’s going to take until the beginning of next week to build the stairs (offsite) and they will do the windows and the single door at that time. For complete details, check out the project page.
The started framing yesterday and have most of the joists in place for the second floor. Check out the project page for complete info.
We are moving along nicely on the garage. The slab is now complete and we are ready to start framing. I’ve updated the project page with more details and photos.
We finished the footing this week and the foundation walls should be completed by the end of the weekend. I’ve updated the Garage Project Page with photos and details.

Ever since we finished the room over the garage, we have had a severe shortage of storage space. This, combined with the fact that our garage is tiny and we can either put the cars in or my stuff (but not both) has had us talking about building a detached garage in the back yard.
We’ve started talking to a couple of different builders, but we still need to get approval from the Architectural Review Board.
Here are a few pictures of what I think we want to build.
We just recently had to replace our microwave which seemed to develop conciousness and started to shut itself on and off at will. Part of installing the new microwave required ripping out a few tiles that interfered with the mounting bracket. After fixing the tile I decided to dig up the pictures from 2004 when I remodelled the counter and backsplash.
